QQQ Portfolio Stock: US$82,550.20 Cash: US$21,620.55 Total: US$104,170.75 The QQQ Portfolio has finally crossed over the original starting value of US$100,000, nearly 2 years after I started this. Along the way, the portfolio has risen from 920 shares to 1910 currently. This month's checkup flashed a sell signal, and I converted some of my shares to cash. Ballast at the ready for the next storm ahead!

Half-year Benchmark A friend I got to know who used to be in the finance sector asked me for the half-year benchmark. Using my portfolio values on 11 March as my base, I would have gotten a 19.99% gain in my boring portfolio, and a whooping 44.34% gain for the QQQ portfolio. This is expected, as the boring portfolio consisted of mainly safe dividend-bearing stocks, but also because it was exposed to a banking stock at the beginning - without the ballast system put in place, the portfolio would have been torn to shreds. QQQ Portfolio Stock: US$82,089.60 Cash: US$16,096.25 Total: US$98,185.85 Profit-taking continues. We are getting close to the original value of the 100k investment, but the important point is that we have 2040 shares, way up from the original 920 we started with. It may not be an exciting way to invest (30% per month ROI as some gurus claim!), but capital is protected as much as possible, and we get more shares along the way.

It is interesting to note that, while the value of the portfolio is slightly below its original USD100k, the number of shares is 2080 vs the original 920.

Boring Portfolio Stock: US$75,893.00 Cash: US$364.85 Total: US$76,258.85 The decision to move into the FMCG company appears to be worth it, as the stocks began to stabilise. The system I am using, however, is still screaming for cash - it is out of ballast, out of bullets, even as it sees opportunities and targets everywhere. Yes, surprising, it is still flashing a "Buy" signal for the portfolio. Too bad it is out of cash, and I will not deviate from the system. It is interesting to note the conservative nature of this portfolio (even though it is used to buy up a violatile tech-based QQQ), how it sought to preserve capital at all costs. Not only that, but I happened to be exposed to a bank. If not for the system I am using, the portfolio would have been torn to shreds. As it is, it dropped less than the market from its heights.
